The BMW M635 CSI, produced from 1984 to 1989, represents the pinnacle of the E24 chassis 6 Series and stands as one of BMW’s most desirable grand touring coupes. Powered by the M88/3 inline-six, an engine derived directly from the M1 supercar, it delivers smooth, high-revving performance coupled with exceptional responsiveness and engineering sophistication. Its beloved “shark-nose” design, balanced chassis dynamics, and motorsport provenance set it apart from its contemporaries, offering a blend of elegance and capability that defined BMW’s ethos of the era. Today, the M635CSi is regarded as a highly collectible and historically significant automobile, valued for its purity, craftsmanship, and strong presence.

As the M635CSi was never officially imported by BMW North America, all U.S. examples arrived as gray-market cars during the 1980s. Independent importers brought them in and converted them to meet federal DOT and EPA requirements, often adding emissions equipment or modifying lighting to satisfy U.S. regulations. This gray-market status makes surviving cars rarer and often more desirable among collectors.

Specifications include: 415mm BBS wheels with recent Michelin tires, limited slip differential, rear spoiler, front air dam with fog lights, front sport seats, M-Tech steering wheel, on-board computer, power windows, and air conditioning.

The 1985 BMW M635CSi on offer was brought to the US and federalized in 1985, where it remained with its owner for the proceeding 38 years. In May, 2021, a mechanical overhaul was undertaken to include replacement of the pistons, piston rings, cylinder head gasket, drive belts, fuel pump, oil pan gasket, radiator, water pump gasket, spark plugs, thermostat, and clutch. The sale is accompanied by recent history file, tools, spare wheel/tire, first aid kit, and three keys.
