Blu Scuro over Crema Leather, Blue Carpeting and Console, 4.8L V12 Engine, Automatic Transmission, Superb Ferrari Collector Ownership History, Only 19,000 Miles.
This exceptional 1984 Ferrari 400i is finished in rare Blu Scuro, a color typically phased out after the factory switch to Glasurit paints in late 1983. Believed to be a special-order finish, Blu Scuro (also referred to as “Midnight Blue”) was exceptionally rare across Ferrari model offerings, with only a handful of Testarossa examples known to have been finished in Blu Scuro. The Ferrari is paired with a Crema interior, blue carpeting and a blue leather console, offering a refined and elegant interior aesthetic.
Produced from 1979 to 1985, the 400i is a refined V12 grand tourer designed by Pininfarina and equipped with fuel injection for improved performance and reliability. Paired with a 3-speed automatic transmission, it offered a smooth, luxurious driving experience aimed at long-distance touring. Though not officially imported to the US, many were brought in as gray-market automobiles. Today, the 400i is increasingly recognized for its understated elegance and quintessential Ferrari engineering.
Originally delivered on June 20, 1984, to AutoExpo GmbH in Germany, the car was soon imported to the U.S. and titled to its first US owner, Dr. J. Long of Florida. In 1987, it was acquired by Ms. C.M. David of Ohio, who showed the car extensively at Ferrari Club of America events. It earned multiple prestigious awards including 1st in Class at the 1989 and 1992 FCA Nationals and the National Preservation Award, a testament to its impeccable condition, provenance, and originality.
The car remained under careful stewardship through the years, including 20-year ownership by collector and gentleman driver Mr. J. Siegel of New York, who maintained the automobile meticulously and drove it fewer than 500 miles. Its odometer, still reading in kilometers, reflects its gray-market heritage with a correct period stickered MPH speedometer - common among European imports of the time and verified by Ferrari gauge experts at Palo Alto Speedometer.
This Ferrari 400i has been fastidiously maintained throughout its ownership history with an abundance of accompanying documentation. Under current ownership, this example has been serviced and cared for by a New England franchised dealership.
Today, with just over 30,000 kilometers (~18,900 miles), this 400i presents as a superb, concours-quality example with matching-numbers engine and a wonderful ownership history. It drives exceptionally well and has never been disassembled, offering a rare opportunity to own one of the best preserved examples of Ferrari’s classic V12 2+2 grand tourer. This Ferrari is accompanied by its tool roll, keys, and history file. It is ready for immediate road, touring, or pleasure use.
